SVG hosts ARC+ for the first time

Officials in the local tourism industry are happy with the growth in the sailing sector, which continues to attract yacht owners to the waters of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

These sentiments were discussed during the inaugural hosting of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers – Arc+ 2018 in St Vincent and the Grenadines. On Thursday, December 13, 2018, a welcome party was held at the Blue Lagoon and saw the boating enthusiasts all gathered to commence friendly racing.

ARC attracts sailors who journey across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to the Caribbean. The event is known to have over 200 boats and 1,200 people every year.

CEO of the SVG Tourism Authority, Glen Beache, in his remarks said, “St. Vincent and the Grenadines is the most diverse in the Caribbean, which is our strength.” The SVGTA CEO stressed that the unspoilt nature of this country gives visitors the true essence of the Caribbean. Beache noted that travel is about “bragging rights”, and pointed out that sailing and yachting is the biggest niche market in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The growing event, promises to be an annual one here and according to Kelly Glass, owner of the Blue Lagoon Hotel, sailing has been a hidden secret. He however lauded the CEO of the SVG Tourism Authority and his team for their vigorous marketing efforts to promote St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Glass also added that the Argyle International Airport is fundamental in the way forward.

Glass emphasized that “sailing tourism is fantastic for the country”, since the benefits are far reaching.

Communication Director of World Cruising Club, Jeremy Wyat, commended Glassfor his hospitality and generosity and revealed that they have already opened the list for 2019, November and have already seen an increase of ten boats, compared to 15 this year.
