Bequia United remain in control of Bequia 20/20

Sugar Reef Bequia United, the 2017 Bequia 20/20 cricket competition winners, downed former champions Knights Trading De Aussies by seven runs, in the latest round of matches played at the Clive Tannis Playing Field, thus keeping their hopes of title retention intact.

Chelson Stowe stroked 7 sixes and a solitary four in his knock of 54, to pilot Bequia United to 122, batting first. Dean Browne, who took 4 for 15 and Braxy Browne, 2 for 14, were the main wicket-takers for De Aussies. At their turn with the bat, De Aussies reached 115 for 8 in 11.5 overs.

Oswald Soleyn’s 26, was the lone score of note. Chelson Stowe capped a good all-round performance, snaring 4 for 33 and Jenry Ollivierre had 2 for 19.

However, it was Saturday’s match which provided the riveting action, as Friendship United and Royal Challengers needed a super over to decide the winner.

Friendship United made 200 for 5 from their 20 overs, to which Royal Challengers also replied with 200.

In Friendship United’s innings, Levan Stowe struck 8 sixes and 3 fours in his 72, while Desbert Yorke contributed 36.

Nickie Antoine was Royal Challengers’ most successful bowler, taking 2 for 35. Cleus Cato made 71 ( 9×4, 4×6), Kenville Sam, 40, in which he laced 2 fours and 5 sixes and Nickie Antoine, 35, saw Royal Challengers to their 200 all out.

Bowling for Friendship United, Vernardo Primus snared 4 for 27, Verden Baptiste, 2 for 40 and Courtney Ollivierre, 2 for 48.

Friendship United won the super over, responding with 18 for 0, to Royal Challengers’ 13 for 0. Sunday’s first match resulted in Defenders notching up a 175-run win over Dockside Marine.

Defenders posted 236 for 9 from their 20 overs, led by Alroy Hoyte’s 70, in which he belted 7 sixes and 4 fours. Deswayne Williams hit 9 sixes and a four in his 66, while Kirton Lavia contributed 33.

Bevon Stowe was the pick of Dockside Marine’s bowlers, bagging 5 for 29. Dockside Marine batsmen were sent on dry dock, bowled out for 61.

They were unraveled by the bowling of Sherlon Pompey who took 4 for 11, Othniel Lewis, 2 for 10, and Kirton Lavia, 2 for 13.
