Schools’ volleyball serves off
The seventh edition of the schoolsâ volleyball tournament is on the go, after serving off last Friday afternoon at the Girlsâ High School court.
The opening salvo featured the George Stephens Senior Secondary School (GSSS) in both the male and female segments.
But for the former winners of the tournament, they returned to their base defeated and empty-handed in both outings.
Girlsâ High School started off GSSSâ bad beginning, beating them in straight sets, 25-9, 25-9.
More woes came GSSSâ way, as they were edged out by the St Vincent Grammar School (SVGS), in a three-set thriller.
SVGS won set one at 25-23, but GSSS, with a 25-20 win in the second set, brought parity to the encounter.
Then SVGS won the decisive set 16-14, to take the match 2-1.
When last yearâs tournament was held, Georgetown Secondary copped both the male and female titles.
Since the inception in 2012, GSSS won the male division from 2012 to 2014, with Georgetown Secondary winning the 2015, 2016 and 2017 editions.
On the female side, St Josephâs Convent Kingstown won the inaugural tournament in 2012 and retained it in 2013, before ceasing participation.
Since then, it has all been Georgetown Secondary from 2013 to 2017.
