Barbados sets up table toppers clash with Windwards

The powerful Barbados line-up set up a table top encounter when they meet the Windwards tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in the Cricket West Indies Women’s Super-50 Cricket Competition.

A 42-run win against Guyana, yesterday at the Park Hill Playing Field, made the Barbadians perfect after three rounds of matches.

Deandra Dottin, who slammed 5 fours and a six in her 47 and Shakera Selman, 30, were the main contributors in Barbados’ score of 145 all out from 44.3 overs.

Bowling for Guyana, Treymane Smartt took 3 for 15, while Evra Giddings had 2 for 22 and Subrina Munroe, 2 for 36.

Guyana’s response stopped at 104 all out in 39.4 overs. Shamaine Campbell led with 25, as Shamalia Connell grabbed 4 for 16, Aaliyah Alleyne, 3 for 13 and Keila Elliot, 2 for 35.

Barbados announced their intent when they notched up an opening win over last year’s winners Trinidad and Tobago at Sion Hill. After dismantling the Trinidadians for 131 off 42 overs, Barbados replied with 132 for 4.

Kyshona Knight hit four fours and one six in her 56, to lead a successful Barbadian run chase.

When Trinidad and Tobago batted, Britney Cooper stroked 52, which included six fours and one six and Merissa Aguilliera, 25.

Hayley Matthews bagged 4 for 24.

Then, on Saturday, Barbados added a second win, this time by seven wickets against Jamaica at Arnos Vale.

Hayley Matthews struck 10 fours in her 56 not out, to anchor Barbados at 89 for 3 in 23. 3 overs.

This, after the Jamaicans were sent packing for 87 in 34.1 overs. Deandra Dottin picked off 4 for 24, Keila Elliot, 2 for 9 and Shakera Selman, 2 for 17.

Trinidad and Tobago rebounded to beat Guyana by six wickets at the Sion Hill venue on Saturday.

Guyana were dismissed for 83 in 42.4 overs, as Caneisha Isaac took 4 for 22; Anisa Mohammed collected 3 for 15; and Karishma Ramharack, 2 for 0.

Merissa Aguilleira scored 30 not out, as Trinidad and Tobago got to 84 for 4 in the 30th over.

Trinidad and Tobago went on to blast the Leewards by eight wickets yesterday, to position themselves for a place in the final.

The Leewards were dismissed for 76 in 28.3 overs, undone by the bowling of Anis Mohammed, 4 for 18, Karishma Ramharack, 2 for 10 and Caniesha Isaac, 2 for 26.

In response, the Trinidadians cantered to 78 for 2 in 10.4 overs.

Leading the charge was Britney Cooper with 27.

Both the Leewards and Jamaica were forced to share the spoils, as their match at Park Hill on Thursday was abandoned without a ball being bowled, due to wet conditions caused by rain.
