Cupid beat Barker (last yearâs overall winner) 2-1 in the extremely competitive night of games that saw some 32 pool players vying for the EC$500 and a place in the March 12 finals where they can win EC$5,000.{{more}}
âI have only been playing pool for two years and I feel nice, excited, that I won this round,â said Cupid, after receiving his prize money and trophy from tournament supervisor Cleve âSkipâ McKenzie, in the presence of Guinness girls Kate, Denica and Kiko.
He said that during the first and third legs of the competition, he reached the semi-finals, but was knocked out, so he came to Richland Park expecting to win.
âMy focus now is to practise now to win in the finals,â said the Community College graduate, who practises at Frankâs Bar in Mesopotamia.
Added Cupid, âthis competition is real nice, as it allows you to socialize and meet new players and get experience.â
Now, pool players from throughout the length and breadth of St Vincent will this Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20 flock to Over the River Grocery in Overland and Bequia, respectively, for the fifth and sixth rounds of competition.
McKenzie said that persons are encouraged to do registration between 6 and 8 p.m. at the venue. To register, a competitor must purchase three Guinness beverages. Pool sharks will compete, using the best of three format and the last man standing at the end of the night will take home EC$500 and a place in the grand finale on March 12, where they can walk away with EC$5,000 cash.
The other players already in the running for the big money are Ozzie St Hillaire, Andy Lynch and Dygo Sergeant, who won the first, second and third legs respectively.
The other two legs will be played at Azard St Hill in Troumaca on Saturday, February 27 and Tree House Bar in Arnos Vale on Saturday, March 5.
