Young footballers scoop accolades in schools’ competition

The cream of the crop in the Ministry of Education’s Secondary Schools’ Football Competition were placed in the limelight last Friday afternoon at the Victoria Park, during the presentation ceremony for the 2015 edition.

Securing the prizes for the most outstanding goalkeepers were Clinton Payne and Jahwan Peters.

Payne, who was between the bars for the Junior Division champions – the St Martin’s Secondary, took the award for that division.

Meanwhile, Peters was the Senior Division’s recipient. He kept goal for losing finalists and dethroned champions, the Dr JP Eustace Memorial.

There was a joint top goal scorer in the senior division, as Trivis Fraser of the Central Leeward Secondary and Ammein John of the Intermediate High School recorded eight goals apiece.

They edged out Dr JP Eustace’s Cordel Franklyn, who had an opportunity in last Friday’s final to leap-frog them, but could not find his scoring touch.

But there was a clear winner in the Junior Division. This was taken by the Emmanuel High School Mespo’s Benjamin Williams, who had six goals.

St Martin’s Secondary’s Cheslon Hendrickson finished on five.

The zonal winners in the Junior Division were Georgetown Secondary- Zone A; Central Leeward Secondary – Zone B, Dr JP Eustace Memorial – Zone C and the Thomas Saunders Secondary – Zone D.

Among the seniors, copping Zone A at the end of the preliminary round was Georgetown Secondary, like the juniors, Central Leeward Secondary – Zone B; Dr JP Eustace Memorial – Zone C and the Intermediate High School – Zone D.(RT)
