RSVG Police versus Sion Hill in Masters Cricket final

RSVG Police and Sion Hill will meet in the SVG Masters Cricket finals this Sunday at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.

The lawmen last Saturday expended little effort to stop St Vincent Co-operative Bank Ptani at the Arnos Vale Two.{{more}}

Ptani was sent packing for 69 in 19.1 overs, batting first. They were scythed by the bowling of Calvin Glasgow – 3 for 18 and Sigmund Allen – 3 for 14.

RSVG Police then took 9.5 overs to reach 73 for one. Gosnel Cupid, who hit a few lusty blows, including two which took flight to clear the nearby airport fence, as the former St Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards batsman finished on 35 not out.

This stretched RSVG Police’s unbeaten run in this year’s competition to seven wins, with their other fixture abandoned because of rain.

For RSVG Police, it will be another opportunity to lay claim to the title, having done so in 2007 and in the 2010 edition, which was held over to 2011.

On the other hand, Sion Hill will be hoping to go one better than their placing last year, when they had to settle for second behind debutants in the competition – North East. Both were enjoying their first visit to the final.

Sion Hill has a score to settle with the law officers, as they suffered at the hands of them in the preliminary round.

Sunday’s final, which bowls off at 1:30 p.m., is also a battle between the two leading run scorers in the competition – William “Bill” Edwards of Sion Hill and RSVG Police’s Gosnel Cupid. Edwards is ahead on 203 runs and Cupid trails with 190.

The presentation and closing ceremony follow Sunday’s final.(RT)
