Ministry of Education retain Firms’ Football title

The Ministry of Education became the first entity to successfully defend the league competition Digicel/Aeropost/St Vincent Brewery/Breakaway Masters Firms’ Invitational Football Tournament.{{more}}

The 2014 champions did so last Sunday at the Grammar School Playing Field, getting past CWSA on kicks from the penalty spot, 4-2, after both had played to a nil-nil stalemate in regulation time.

VINLEC won the inaugural title in 2011, with Digicel taking it in 2012 and ECGC in 2013.

The awards list showed Ministry of Transport and Works’ Zenroy Lee copping the senior men’s Player of the Tournament award and Anesta Richards, who played for CWSA, was the female recipient of the corresponding award.

Taking the Most Goals award was Daniel Patrick of Fisheries for his 13 goals, with Kenron Daniel of the Ministry of Education – the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper, taking away the Ali Munroe trophy.

The Ministry of Education won Zone One and Toni’s Stores Combined – Zone Two.

The organizers also rewarded five teams which have participated in all tournaments since inception. The recipients were CWSA, Coreas Hazells, Transport and Works, Customs, and SVG Port Authority.

Recognition also went to the outstanding performers in the Agriculture Input Warehouse Under-16 competition.

Volcanoes’ Cadel Hector, eight years old, was the Youngest Player in the competition, with Zolandi Williams, also of Volcanoes, voted the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper.

Another Volcanoes player – Raheem Westfield – took away the Most Goals award for his five items.

The overall Most Valuable Player Award was pouched by Ted Roberts of System Three One.

And, adjudged the Male Spectator of the Year was Wayne Smith and the Female Spectator of the Year – Patricia Solomon.(RT)
