Coretta Sealey, one of the pioneers of netball in the Sion Hill community, was last Sunday recognized by the current Sion Hill Netball Committee for her contribution.{{more}}
Fittingly, Sealeyâs recognition came at the opening of the 2015 Vitamalt Sion Hill Netball Tournament, as she was one of the mainstays of the tournament since its inception back in the 1970âs.
Sealey is also credited with introducing many persons from the community to the sport, using the Sion Hill Government School as the first outlet.
This led to the formation of a Sion Hill netball outfit, which entered the national competition.
Sealey noted that coming out of a unit from the community known as Mac Winters, she was spurred into doing more to help young ladies in the sport.
She is known to take the budding players to various parts of St Vincent, to test their abilities against others.
The continuum followed, as Sion Hill was one of the initiators of area netball tournaments.
Although out of active participation for some time because of personal reasons, Sealey, over the years, has made charitable contributions to the Sion Hill Netball Tournament and the Sion Hill community as a whole.
Pleased with the recognition, Sealey pledged to continue to help wherever she can.(RT)
