Wayne Grant seeking SVGFF First Vice-President post

In the declaration of his candidacy, Grant, who has served football over the years in South Leeward, advanced, “there is an urgent need to have the right mechanisms in place to help with the development of football within St Vincent and the Grenadines, on and off the field of play…. With Wayne Grant as 1st VP, there will be a great enhancement in the technical department within football.”{{more}}

In listing his credentials, Grant noted:’ “I have been involved in football for over 15 years, as a player and an administrator at club level… I have developed the right attitude, knowledge, and skills to help take football on a forward path…. I believe strongly in equality, transparency, and accountability.”

Grant’s projections, if elected, would be to “create a level playing field, so that all affiliated members will benefit in one way or the other, something that is truly needed,” as well as “to put together a competent Technical and Development Committee, to charter the way forward for the development of the game.”

Outlining a platform for both clubs and players, Grant proposes to improve on the structure that is already in place to help teams with the transition to a club structure, along with the implementation of a system of club assistance, with a move towards professionalization of clubs and create an online support system for clubs.

If elected, Grant proposes to put in place a player development plan to maximize accessibility of players to the SVGFF development programmes.

Also in Grant’s action plan is the creation of professional players, who will be successful at club and national level and be exposed to opportunities to play the game professionally and implement an education policy to improve footballers’ education level.

Elections for a new executive are set for sometime this month, postponed from last Saturday.

The post of first vice-president of the SVGFF became vacant in January of this year with the resignation of Kenton Ollivierre, who migrated to the USA.

Ollivierre had taken up duties in January 2014, following the resignation of Lloyd Small, who was elected on September 24, 2011, as part of the Venold Coombs-led executive. (RT)
