Affiliates receiving value status from SVGFF

After being treated as orphans and neglected for the better part of a year, affiliates of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) are now been greeted with open arms by their parent body.{{more}}

After a meeting demanded by some affiliates back in July, the executive has since summoned affiliates to two successive meetings.

The first was last Saturday, with the other set for tomorrow, also at the SVGFF’s office on Bentick Square.

At last Saturday’s meeting, the agenda items were the upcoming National Club Championships; an update on the constitution reform of the Football Federation and the Football Federation logo, according to an email sent by general secretary of the SVGFF Trevor Huggins.

The agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, as outlined by administrative officer of the SVGFF Devron Poyer, will include “the Olympics Qualifiers Under 23: SVG U-23 trip to Haiti; Constitution of SVGFF, National Club Championship 2015 and World Cup Qualifier, Road to Russia 2018: SVG vs Aruba.”

The meeting is set to commence at 10 a.m.

Many football pundits are shell-shocked at the quick about-turn by the executive.

They believe that with elections pending, the officers of the executive are ensuring that they put their names in the good books of the affiliates, following three years of neglect and near oblivion.

At a recent press briefing, president of the SVGFF Venold Coombs indicated that he welcomed meetings with affiliates.

“Even if [it] is one person, one representative of a club who want[s] a meeting, I will meet with him, because they are important part of the football framework and we go forward,” Coombs related.

Elections for a new executive to run the affairs of the SVGFF for the next four years are expected to be convened before the end of October this year.

The current executive, under the headship of Coombs was elected in September 24, 2011.(RT)
