Vincy Heat to meet Aruba in WCQ third round

Vincy Heat has been matched up against Aruba for the third round of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers to be staged August 31 and September 8.{{more}}

This was revealed last Saturday when the draw took place in Petersburg, Russia.

The progress of the Vincentians’ signature senior men’s football team came after a successful defence of the eligibility of English-born Gavin James.

Following the second round tie on April 10 and 14, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) lodged a protest over James’ eligibility, stating he was not in possession of a Vincentian passport.

However, the disciplinary committee of football’s world governing body (FIFA) did not uphold the GFF’s appeal; hence the results of the two matches stood.

When the first leg was held here at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on June 10, the match ended 2-2, with the return leg in Guyana four days later locked at 4-4.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, however, progressed on the away goals ruling.

Should St Vincent and the Grenadines get past Aruba, they will be placed in Group C of the fourth round, which also comprises the USA, Trinidad and Tobago and the winner of the third round tie between Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala.(RT)
