Alexi Humphrey making name on regional tennis circuit

Alexi Humphrey is inking her name on the regional tennis circuit, as she retained the Girls’ Under-14 singles title of the BMobile ITF tournament, which took place in Trinidad and Tobago last week.

Humphrey was adding her second lien on the title, which she first won last year.{{more}}

Facing her sidekick in the final, fellow Vincentian Anastacia White, Humphrey won 6-1, 6-0.

Humphrey was crowning off a successful two-week regional campaign, as she and White had copped the doubles title of the Barbados leg of the ITF set-up.

On their way to the finals in Trinidad and Tobago Humphrey saw off Victoria Koylass of the host country, 6-1, 6-2, while White crafted Meggan William of St Lucia’s exit with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 win.

White then short-circuited Ana Jamarmillo of Curacao, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.

Humphrey, and White, though, were knocked out of the semi-finals in the doubles play.

Their achievements brought delight to their coach Keebajah King, who told SEARCHLIGHT that it was a pay-off for the hard work they had put in.

King, who was not on hand to see them in their sojourn, revealed, “The girls have worked hard for this, sometimes practising in the morning before they went off to school.”

However, whilst basking in their success, King cautioned: “Their journey has just started… There is a lot of work still to be done… Others in the region will be looking at them and will be coming at them.

“I have told them that as they progress, things are going to get tougher, so they would have to train harder and harder,” King commented.

King noted that he would like to see them entering more prestigious tournaments held in the region in the shortest possible time.
