Boyde will compete in the male Under-20, 100m and 200m, while Maloney runs in the Under-18 females 200m and 400m.

It is Boyde’s second and final year participating in the Carifta Games. His first outing was last year, when the games were held in Martinique.

He clocked 10.61 seconds in the 100m to reach the final, but finished at the back of the pack in the eight-member qualifiers.

Maloney, a former student of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, but who now resides in St Kitts, last attended the Carifta Games in the Bahamas in 2013.

At her debut outing, Maloney reached the final of the female Under-17 300m hurdles, but failed to complete the race.

But Maloney returned to be crowned the Under-15 champion at the Central American and Caribbean Juvenile Championships in Curacao in 2013.

The last time St Vincent and the Grenadines gained a medal at the Carifta Games was in 2009, when Canadian-born Delhonni Samuel-Nicol pouched a silver in the males Under-20 5000m, attained at George Odlum Stadium, located in Vieux Fort, St Lucia.

The team of Boyde and Maloney has technical director of Team Athletics SVG Chester Morgan as coach and Jacintha Ballantyne, who travels as chaperone.(RT)
