The St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association has a new executive in place to administer the affairs of the sport here for the next 12 months.{{more}}
Heading the organization is James Bentick, who takes over the reins from Dr Sherian Slater, who held the post for many years. Dominic Ross takes up the position of vice-president while Edlena Adams maintains her duties as secretary. Dr Sherian Slater takes over the position of treasurer, with Kevin Hannaway â the public relations officer.
Completing the executive are committee members Neal Jackman and Ann Miller, with Janine Doyle â the junior playersâ representative.
The new executive was installed last Saturday afternoon, as the association staged its Annual General Meeting at the National Squash Centre, located in Paulâs Avenue.
Meanwhile, in taking over the mantle as president, Bentick said he is excited in being at the helm.
âI have been in squash for 15 years and it is time that I take the helm and see what we can do, and 2015 is a good year to start with the extra boost that we are going to get,â Bentick told SEARCHLIGHT, soon after being elected.
Bentick said he was particularly pleased with the news that local squash is among five sporting disciplines which would be at the receiving end of funding which would be made available via the Mustique Charitable Trust.
âThe Mustique Trust has selected five sports and squash being one of them…There is going some monetary funding, which will assist in getting the children to be able to travel more, compete in more tournaments, get more exposure,â Bentick disclosed.
The new president is looking forward to working with his fellow executive members, as he also has task of carrying out his other duties as national coach.
âI have a great executive, so it will not be just me…As far as I am concerned, we are going to work together; everyone is the executive ….I am just the head of the association and might have the final say in certain things … That is how I intend to lead the organization,â Bentick projected.
Last Saturdayâs Annual General Meeting also heard the treasurerâs and executiveâs reports for 2014, which were both adopted by those present. (RT)
