NBC Radio 705 firmly take Industrial Netball title

NBC Radio 705 landed the 2014 Facey Trading Firms and Industrial title last Monday evening at the Kingstown Netball Centre, silencing Ministry of Education/Teachers 64-57 in the final.{{more}}

After trailing 16-20 at the end of the first quarter, NBC Radio took over, ending the half at 35-28 in the ascendancy. It was a 12-goal margin at the end of the third quarter 53-41, still in favour of NBC Radio.

Although losing in the last quarter, they closed off the contest large and in charge.

For the winners, Skiddy Francis Crick had 61 of her 65 attempts counted, while Dellarice Duncan registered 2 of her 4 and Daffodil Grant 1 from 1.

Tamara Samuel led Ministry of Education/ Teachers’ scoring, pouring in 50 of her 58 attempts, while Cheryl Alexander registered 7 out of 12.

It was NBC Radio 705’s fifth straight appearance in the finals, having belted back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.

NBC was also avenging a defeat inflicted on them in 2010 by the same unit, while making amends for last year’s loss in the finals to the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture.

In the third place play-off which preceded the final, dethroned champions G & T Enterprises Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture defeated RSVG Police 43-25.

Leading up to the finals, NBC Radio had stopped the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture 37-29, while the Ministry of Education/Teachers had outplayed RSVG Police 43-21.

Following last Monday’s final, the closing and presentation ceremony took place at the same venue.

The Ministry of Transport and Works received trophies for the Best Banner, the Best Dressed Team and the Most Disciplined Team.

Grantley Toby of the champions, NBC Radio 705, was voted the Most Improved Male Player.

Also rewarded were the Most Improved Male Player on each of the participating teams.

Accepting the awards were Catesha Buntyn – Ministry of Transport and Works; Samantha Lynch – Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture; Resha John – Admin Combine; Stewart Malcolm – Combine Insurances; Kasia Robison – Combine Banks, while Joevern Joseph took it for RSVG Police; Sylvorn Harry – the Ministry of Education/Teachers and Cindy Joseph – NBC Radio 705.

The ceremony heard remarks from the president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association, Dellarice Duncan, and branch manager of Facey Trading St Vincent Limited Alpian Toney.(RT)
