The 70-mile road race will see cyclists from the sub region pedalling the Mt Grenan to Georgetown route eight times.

President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union Trevor “Sailor” Bailey has indicated that the wheels are in motion to stage a well-organised championship.

“Plans are going well,” Bailey said, as he spoke to the media last Wednesday at the conference room of the National Lotteries Authority at Paul’s Avenue.

Bailey promised that leading up to the championships, he would give regular updates to whip up interest in the competition.

At the media briefing, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union received a cheque of $10,000 from the National Lotteries Authority towards the hosting of the championships.

In thanking the title sponsor, Bailey noted that as host, St Vincent and the Grenadines would be looking for a finish on the podium.

“We have a team in place and have been having a lot of races…. We have already had nine races so far…. These races are in preparation for the OECS Cycling Championships and other championships scheduled for around the region,” Bailey stated.

Meanwhile, St Vincent and the Grenadines will host its time trial to select its final team on August 10.

Apart from the title sponsor, the National Lotteries Authority, others are on board with the venture, including Premium Products, Cash Money Auto, Subway, Lewis Pharmacy, St Vincent and the Grenadines Broadcasting Corporation, the News Newspaper, Mike’s Screen Print and the VC3.

The SVG Cycling Union president disclosed that St Vincent and the Grenadines will be in the cycling spotlight once again in 2015.

“Next year we will be hosting for the very first time, the Masters OECS Cycling Championships and we are going to host the Masters Caribbean Championships,” Bailey, who is also the president of the Caribbean Cycling Federation announced. (RT)
