Mixed weekend for Middlesex, Cavaliers in BCL
Vincentian outfits Middlesex and Cavaliers had a mixed bag last weekend in the Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) in New York.
Both teams had one win and one loss, inclusive of a head-to-head clash on Saturday.{{more}}
Facing each other at Marine Park, Middlesex recovered from 67 for 6, to reach 241 for 9 in their 40 overs.
Stitching up the innings in a seventh wicket partnership of 121 were captain Mark Audain and his deputy Rod Michael. Audain struck 61, which included eight fours and Michael scored 59, made up of three fours and the same number of sixes.
Bowling for Cavaliers, Timothy Warner took 3 for 17, Dawnley Grant 2 for 22, and Dave Narine 2 for 33.
Cavaliers reached within touching distance of the 242 required to cross the line, but were dismissed at 224 in 29.3 overs.
Cavaliersâ charge was led by Grant who blasted 77, dotted with three fours and four sixes. Nasir Mohammed chipped in with 34.
Middlesexâs bowling saw Mark Audain taking 3 for 14, Kavir Singh 3 for 48, Wayne Clennon 2 for 18 and Roshane Manning 2 for 47, to win by 17 runs.
The fortunes were switched the following day, as Middlesex was defeated by Diplomats and Cavaliers outdid Imperial in another all-Vincy clash.
Middlesex, choosing to bat at Marine Park C was shot out for 68. Mark Audain was the top scorer with 28. He hit four fours and one six.
Romano Neil snared 3 for 6; Joel Boodoo and Elliott Bedessie, both picked up 2 for 8, bowling for Diplomats.
In reply, Diplomats scored 69 in 16.1 overs, losing four wickets in the process.
Chandrapaul Roopnarine was Middlesexâs main wicket taker with 2 for 12.
Following their defeat on Saturday, Cavaliers brushed their pants off and took revenge against Imperial who were at a numerical disadvantage, as they fielded nine players.
Cavaliers romped to 248 for 7 in 35 overs. Andrew Marsh top scored with 63, James Fewell hit 61 and Timothy Warner 36. Bowling for Imperial, Don Parris had 3 for 8.
Things went from bad to worse for Imperial, as their innings halted at 34 for 6, as according to reports, the two other batsmen decided not to take the field.
Selwyn Cain broke the back of the Imperial batting, capturing 4 for 9, as Cavaliers won by 214 runs.
Queensberry, the other Vincentian team participating in the BCL, won against St Lucia, who were unable to field a team.
On Sunday, at Marine Park A, Cavaliers take on Brooklyn Stars; Queensbury engage Diplomats and at Seaview, Middlesex will face Imperial. (RT)
