This followed his trumping of the 60-mile event, achieved June 1.

Bailey, racing in the Under-40 age group, however, had to recover from a fall on the last lap of the circuit, to nip Lucky Antrobus at the finish line on the Colonarie main road.

His winning time was 2 hours 21 minutes 16.53 seconds, while Antrobus clocked 2 hours 21 minutes 16.72 seconds.

But there was a touch of sportsmanship by Antrobus, who assisted Bailey when he fell.

Antrobus, too, was not without mishap, as he encountered problems with his spokes as he and Bailey sprinted home.

The 45-mile race saw the cyclists doing 10 laps of the circuit from Gorse to the Diamonds Gap.

Taking the third place overall was Peter Durrant in 2 hours 21 minutes 17.4 seconds.

Durrant in the process notched up his 10th win in the Over-40’s category for 2014.

Orel George was the fourth cyclist to finish, in 2 hours 25 minutes 26 seconds, to place second in the Over-40’s category.

Curtis Lewis placed fifth overall and third in the Over-40’s in 2 hours 25 minutes 33 seconds.

The other road bike cyclist to complete the course was Desmond Cox, whose time was 2 hours 28 minutes 28 seconds. He was sixth overall and third in the Under-40 age grouping.

Meanwhile, the lone competitor in the mountain bike category Shawn Chandler, who did seven laps of the circuit, recorded 1 hour 55 minutes 39 seconds.

Deptor Culzac, Randy Wilkinson and Steve Ollivierre, who started the race, had to pull out because of mechanical problems.

Likewise, Cammie Adams opted not to compete, deterred by the rainy conditions which prevailed prior to the commencement of the race.
