The all-conquering Vincentians on home soil, last weekend at the National Squash Centre at Paul’s Avenue, added another lien on the titles which have been customary over the years of dominance.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, apart from taking the overall title, scooped the veterans’ and men’s divisions.

And, the Vincentians had it all their way in the women’s team play, as the other competing territories did not field players.

Additionally, St Vincent and the Grenadines won five of the individual categories: men’s open, men’s 40 and over; women’s 40 and over, as well as the men’s 50 and over and the women’s 50 and over.

In the men’s open, St Vincent and the Grenadines occupied the top five positions.

Led by champion Jules Snagg, with runner-up James Bentick, the next three places were ordered to Othniel Bailey, Kevin Hannaway and Jason Doyle .

Bentick took away the men’s 40 and over ahead of Mike Adamson of the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

Sherian Slater was again in winner’s row in the women’s 40 and over, with Greta Primus, also of St Vincent and the Grenadines, docking in second.

Slater added her second singles title, when she went ahead of Carol Vallee of the BVI in the women’s 50 and over category.

The other singles title won by St Vincent and the Grenadines was in the men’s 50 and over category, which was pouched by Colin Alexander. Fellow Vincentian, Telbert Samuel, was the runner-up to Alexander.

The only two titles which did not remain here in St Vincent and the Grenadines were won by Carol Vallee (BVI), who won the women’s open and Winston Findlay, also representing the British Virgin Islands, the men’s 60 and over winner.

The British Virgin Islands docked in second to St Vincent and the Grenadines overall and in the veterans and men’s open.

The others who contested the three-day event were St Lucia and Dominica.

Last Saturday evening’s closing ceremony was addressed by president of the OECS Squash Association David Piper, president National Olympic Committee of St Vincent and the Grenadines Trevor Bailey and director of Physical Education and Sports Nelson Hillocks.(RT)
