Vincentian pair glad to be part Windwards Under-17 team

The Vincentian pair of Vincent Cupid and Shane Roberts have expressed happiness in their selection for the Windwards Under-17 cricket team for the 2014 regional tournament, set for Tobago in early July.{{more}}

The two, both students of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, were in glee when they spoke to SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday.

Cupid, a left-handed batsman stated: “I want to go there and do my best for my team, score some runs and hopefully win the tournament.”

A former Windwards Under-15 player, Cupid idolizes West Indies batsman Trinidadian Darren Bravo, and hence is referred to as “Little Bravo.”

He said he welcomes the progression and eyes further upward movement to other Windwards teams.

“I want to make the Windwards Under-19 team and I am working hard towards this … My hard work is paying off,” projected Cupid, who plays for Guardian General Saints in the National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the national cricket competition.

Meanwhile, Roberts, a right arm medium pacer and handy lower order batsman, said “I am happy to be selected… It means a lot to me.”

Like Cupid, Roberts has tasted Windwards selection.

He was part of the Under-15 unit last year, when the West Indies tournament was held in Jamaica.

The Windwards outfit will be captained by Grenadian Darel Cyrus.

Four other Grenadians: Anil Matthew, Emmanuel Stewart, Narun Sighn and Ryan John are also included in the 14 member team.

St Lucian Christian Charlery has been named vice-captain. His countrymen Nick Elibox and Joshua Mann have also made the final cut.

Three Dominicans: Brian Joseph, Alick Athanaze and Deon Burton complete the team. (RT)
