Garifuna Stars dent United Survivors’ run in women’s cricket

Garifuna Stars derailed United Survivors off their winning track, handing them their first taste of defeat last Saturday in the 2014 RBTT women’s 40-over competition.{{more}}

In the process, Garifuna Stars avenged a defeat handed to them by United Survivors in the first match of this year’s competition, at the Stubbs Playing Field.

But Garifuna Stars found the Park Hill Playing Field to be a better hunting ground, romping to a 53-run triumph.

Batting first, Garifuna Stars posted 209 for 5 from 30 overs.

The consistent left-handed opening bat Nyasha Williams struck 56, before she went by the run out route.

Her opening partner, Hazel-Ann Foster, knocked in 46 and Juliana Nero, 40.

United Survivors’ response stopped at 156 for 8 from their 30 overs.

Samantha Lynch led the way with 61 in a losing cause.

Hazel Foster followed up her batting efforts, as she took 2 for 30, bowling for Garifuna Stars.

In the other fixture played at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field, also on Saturday, JG Tigress struggled to beat their sister team Rising Stars.

Rising Stars were dismissed for 76 in 24.1 overs; Xaviah Matthews top scored with 19, as La Toya Providence snared 4 for 9.

JG Tigress laboured to 79 for 7, with Stacy-Ann Adams hitting 16.

Casey Campbell took 2 for 11, Avian Matthews 2 for 17 and Jephrina Joseph 2 for 22, bowling for Rising Stars.(RT)
