Skilled ballers wanted

Organizers of the local leg of the 2014 Guinness Street Football tournament and Skills Challenge competition are urging more participation in the skills component of the competition.{{more}}

The winner of each round of the Skills Challenge will win a prize from competition sponsors Guinness, as well as a place in the May 24 finals, and earn himself (or herself) a trip to Trinidad and Tobago to compete in the regional finals.

So far, no one has registered for that component of the competition.

During the second round of the competition that took place at the Keartons hard court in Barrouallie last week Saturday, former local and regional champions Crew FC joined Royal Saints from the Georgetown zone, in next month’s local finals.

Playing to one of the largest crowds seen at the preliminary round of competition to date, Crew FC used skill and experience to overcome their youthful rivals Brothers of Barrouallie one nil, thanks to a goal from Dwayne Dennie, less than four minutes from regulation time.

Nine teams registered for the competition.

This weekend, the competition moves to the Grenadines, with action in Union Island and Bequia.
