Grammar School scores hat-trick at Inter-Secondary Schools Sports

The St Vincent Grammar School landed a third successive lien on the male division of the National Lotteries Authority Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Meet last Thursday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.{{more}}

And, the margin of victory was almost on cue to what the school’s head coach Rawlson Morgan predicted.

Prior to the finals, Morgan had predicted to SEARCHLIGHT that his team would have won by 86 clear points.

However, Morgan’s analysis fell short by 12 points, as they tallied 256 points, 74 more than the second placed team, the Thomas Saunders Secondary.

In turn, Thomas Saunders edged out the Bethel High by a mere point. Bethel High compiled 181 points.

Both the Thomas Saunders Secondary and the Bethel High placed second and third respectively in the male and female divisions.

Even before the results were announced, principal of the Grammar School Curtis King was seen clenching his fist and wearing a broad smile, as the closing ceremony neared its commencement.

Coming full circle, King, a former athlete at the school, was in a similar position many years ago during the early 1980s, when the Grammar School was, undoubtedly, the guru at the annual secondary schools’ track and field exposition.

Apart from winning the male division, the Grammar School’s Ethan Myers pouched the Junior Champion, as he registered 21 points.

Myers’ achievement was the first individual accolade attained by the Grammar School within the past three years.

But it was the Thomas Saunders Secondary School’s Erasto Da Silva, who was the stand-out male athlete of the championships. Da Silva’s tally of points, 44, not only gave him the Intermediate Champion, but the Victor Ludorum award.

The other individual male award presented was grasped by Bethel High School’s Akani Slater, who was the Senior Champion. Slater put together 36 points.
