Jack remains committed to women’s cricket

Facing criticism in some quarters over his tenure as head of the national committee which directs women’s cricket here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Julian Jack said he will give it his all, once he is at the helm.{{more}}

Quizzed by SEARCHLIGHT recently about the adverse comments made against his tenure, Jack, who is also the president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association (SVGCA), said that he was asked by other members of his executive to remain in the post.

“No one on the executive had at the time wanted it and as such, they turn around and said that I was the best person to handle this at that time,” Jack noted.

In the interim, Jack stated, “I am not going to give up… I’ll do my best to make sure that… I don’t plan on giving it up.”

However in retrospect, Jack emphasized, “Perhaps I should have given it up last year and focus more on the development of cricket generally, rather than looking at the women’s cricket in itself.”

Jack, though, believes that he is doing a good job in the circumstances.

Rating his performance, Jack evaluated: “I will give myself a seven and half out of 10 for women’s cricket… I don’t think I could give myself a nine or anything of that sort because women’s cricket is not an easy thing to pull together and keep together…. You have to be constantly working at it all the time and they need a lot of individual attention as well.”

Looking ahead, Jack said he will be willing to relieve himself as the point man on women’s cricket.

“If you were to ask me if I were to get back as president on the executive, I would prefer someone else to do it… If I am asked to give it up then or not elected, then that’s another thing,” Jack concluded.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association’s elections for a new executive are set for January 2015.

Jack is serving his fifth two-year term as president of the SVGCA.
