GSS get first taste of schools’ volleyball glory
The Georgetown Secondary School (GSS) female volleyballers added another piece of silverware to the institutionâs trophy cabinet,{{more}} when they stashed away the Q- Care/Ministry of Education Competition last Friday evening at the Girlsâ High School hard-court.
With two-time champion the St Josephâs Convent Kingstown not contesting, it was left to the Georgetown Secondary and the George Stephens Senior Secondary School, to wage the challenge.
As expected, both emerged from the preliminary round and the semi-finals, to do battle in last Fridayâs final.
But the Georgetown Secondary School players showed that they had the mettle, as they dismissed their opponents in straight sets 3-0 ( 25-20, 25-11, 25-16).
It was a win which delighted coach Alicia Glasgow, who was a member of the team last year.
Glasgow said that her charges had worked hard at winning the title, and plan to do their best to defend it in 2015.
GSSâ Shernell Browne was named the Player of the Final.
The Georgetown Secondary came through from the last four with a 25-10, 25-12 smothering of the Thomas Saunders Secondary, while George Stephens Secondary outplayed the Girlsâ High School, 25-4, 25-21.
Girlsâ High School went on to cop the third spot, by defeating the Thomas Saunders Secondary.(RT)
