A representative from Unitedâs local agency, Ronald Iton, recently handed over the sponsorship cheque to the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports to ensure the continuation of this major youth cricket championship. Iton commended the Ministry for its consistent efforts in ensuring the development of this countryâs young cricketers.
This year, defending champions Sandy Bay Secondary School will match skills with 15 other secondary school teams, in their bid to reach the finals in March. The competition got underway on Friday, January 31 and continues until March 7, 2014.
United Insurance Company Limited has been sponsoring this Secondary Schools Competition in St Vincent and the OECS for more than 25 years. The main objective of the Secondary School Cricket Competition is to identify talented junior cricketers in the OECS, help develop their skills and serve as a nursery for the overall development of young cricketers, especially in the OECS.
This is in keeping with Unitedâs commitment to youth development across the 14 territories in which it operates, via support of programmes which use sport to impart important life skills to our young people in the region.
