On Monday, athletes from Sunflower House (yellow), Edna Peters House (blue), Fern House (green) and Hibiscus House (red) were given medals for the various events in which they took part.

With a total of 359 points, Sunflower House came in at first place, while Edna Peters House settled into second position with 332 points. Fern House was third, with 311 points and Hibiscus took the fourth position with 272 points.

When he spoke with SEARCHLIGHT, teacher Kevin Smith stated that the athletic meet went well.

“All in all, everything went well,” he said. “I tried to follow the format that they normally use for the Inter-Primary sports meet.”

Smith, who is also a Level One coach, indicated that the athletes at Petersville spent a significant amount of time training properly so that they could take part in the events.

He explained that on Saturdays, Team SVG Athletics as well as Layou community group, Negative 2 Positive, collaborated to train the students.

Star athlete of Sunflower House Davy Thomas was awarded the Victrix Ludorum title, while Ravern Barker of Edna Peters House was Victor Ludorum.

Smith is positive that with strong athletes like these, Petersville Primary School can show well at the upcoming Inter-Primary sports meet.

“I’m trying to get a team together. I know the children here have the potential to compete,” the Level One coach said.
