Gidron Pope slams double century in schools’ cricket
Windwards Under-19 batsman Gidron Pope slammed 248 to lead his team, Georgetown Secondary School, to a massive 375 for 7 from their allotted 40 overs in the United Insurances Schoolsâ competition last Tuesday at the Park Hill Playing Field.{{more}}
Feeling the sword from the left-handed Pope were the bowlers from the St Josephâs Convent Marriaqua. Othneil Lewis chipped in with 34.
Amidst Popeâs carnage, Nalroy Peters picked up 2 for 47.
In response, St Josephâs Marriaqua was dismissed for 28, as Georgetown Secondary won by 347 runs.
At the Keartons Playing Field, Troumaca Ontario Secondary eased past the Bethel High School by five wickets.
Yannick Williams, 25 and Alex Jessop, 24, were the main scorers in Bethelâs total of 106 all out.
Brenton Stapleton, Orlando Francois and Xavier Simmons each took 2 for 29.
Troumaca at their turn made 108 for 5. Shanji Joseph hit 49. Bowling for Bethel, Bango Farrell had figures of 2 for 28.
There were also wins for the West St George Secondary and the Petit Bordel Secondary.
West St George, facing the Bequia Community High School at the Sion Hill Playing Field, restricted the Bequia Community High to 132 all out. Reon Ollivierre top scored with 22.
Zanni Da Silva grabbed 2 for 29, for West St George, who then responded with 133 for 7, to trump by three wickets. Tilran Harry, 36 not out, and Zanni Da Silva, 29, led the successful run chase.
Mc Neil Farrell had 4 for 41, and Austin Derrick, 2 for 42, bowling for Bequia Community High.
And, the Petit Bordel Secondary defeated Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial by 119 runs at the Stubbs Playing Field.
Husani Tucker, 30, Reynold Providence, 29, and Kadeek Patterson, 24, were the main contributors in Petit Bordelâs total of 169 for 7.
Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial could only reply with 48 all out. They were undone by the bowling of Shammon Hooper with 4 for 5 and Husani Porter, 3 for 19. (RT)
