SVG to host two major regional cycling championships

St Vincent and the Grenadines will host two regional cycling championships during 2014.{{more}}

Set for St Vincent and the Grenadines are the OECS championships – June 7-9 and the Caribbean Masters – October 18-19.

The two championships are the first major cycling events to come this way since this country hosted the Caribbean Elite Championships back in 2008.

Other than the two, it will be another busy period for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union (SVGCU).

The packed agenda shows several local races. Among them are the three stage road race slated for March 14 – 16; A two stage event which takes place March 21 – 23 and a similar two stage, April 5-6.

These go with the marquee local event, the National Championships, the OECS Time Trials, John T Memorial Trials, several hill sprints, road races, keep fit races, BMX races as well as fun rides.

Also part of the agenda of the local union will be the continuation of the Olympic Solidarity schools’ programme.

Away from these shores, St Vincent and the Grenadines should be part of the Cycling Classic in Martinique, April 12-13; the Tour de Martinique, May 24-25, Martinique Cycling Classic, August 9-10, along with the Caribbean Elite Championships carded for Anguilla, October 23- 26; the John T Memorial in Anguilla on July 6, and the Tobago Cycling Classic from September 30 to October 7.

The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico, are possible events for St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The hierarchy of the SVGCU will be part of congresses and other cycling forums across the globe.

According to the calendar released by the SVGCU, the year’s planned activities culminate with the Nine Mornings rides around capital Kingstown. (RT)
