Alexander, who turns 28 next month, did the double in the 300 and 400 metres at her first indoor event for 2014, when she competed in UAB Birmingham, Alabama in the USA.
Alexander won the 300 metres in 37.82 seconds and the 400 metres in 53.53 seconds, establishing a new meet record. The previous record was 54.95 seconds set two days short of two years ago by Amaka Ogoegbunam.
Alexanderâs best time in the 400 m was attained at the 2006 CAC championships, held in Cartagena, Columbia, when she stopped the clock at 52.04 seconds.
Meanwhile, another Vincentian, Courtney Williams, won his heats in a personal best time of 6.80 seconds in the 60 metre open at the Houston Indoor Opener at Yeoman Field House, University of Houston, Houston, Texas. Williams advanced to the final, but could only return a time of 6.98 seconds.
Alexander is hoping for a repeat or to go better in 2014, after enjoying her best season last year when she earned gold and bronze medals at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean track and field championships, which took place in Morelia, Mexico last July.
Alexander gained gold in the 200m female and bronze in the 400m, becoming the first Vincentian to fish out a gold medal at the championships.
She clocked a time of 23:00 seconds in the 200m, which became her personal best.
In the 400 m, Alexander ran the fastest time in the heats, that of 52.33 seconds, and was the hot favourite for the top spot; however, she finished third in the final in 52.81 seconds.
Alexander has the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in August as her major outing in 2014. (RT)
