Local football referees attain FIFA listing

Three local football match officials, referee Moeth Gaymes and assistant referees Denroy Barker and Kiven Michael, have been included on the FIFA list for 2014.{{more}}

Reports are that Gaymes was the lone male central referee from the Caribbean who was added to the 2014 roster. Like Gaymes, it is the first appointment for Barker. In the case of Michael, he was previously listed in 2010, but did not meet the requirements and was subsequently removed.

Their appointments resulted from their having officiated in local matches and on recommendation from the local referees’ instructor and assessor, as well as FIFA referees’ instructor Clemroy Francois. Gaymes, Barker and Michael were presented with their paraphernalia last Sunday night at a brief ceremony at the Victoria Park. The three were given their FIFA badges, their FIFA Fair Play badges, red and yellow cards and the FIFA coin.

Presenting the items were Francois, referees’ administrator Osborne Bowens and president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Venold Coombs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Coombs implored others to get involved in football officiating, specifically underlining the financial benefits which can accrue from such an undertaking.

Their appointment follows a period of drought when St Vincent and the Grenadines did not possess anyone on the list.(RT)
