Burke reaches Level II in vollleyball coaching

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Volleyball Association now has a Level II coach, in the person of Brian Burke, who has promised to make his certification and new found knowledge count.{{more}}

“I plan to hit the ground running early in January of 2014, and begin to put into practice what I have learnt,” Burke told SEARCHLIGHT.

“It was good… It was a whole new world of knowledge and ideas which are evolving in volleyball coaching methods,” Burke said.

He singled out the practical sessions of the course, which were most taxing and critical in gaining his certificate.

Burke, who has coached various teams at the national level, contended that it was an intense course, made even more challenging because the delivery of the material was in Spanish, with translation done in English.

And, Burke’s elevation could not come at a more opportune time, as the only Level II coach which St Vincent and the Grenadines possessed, Marlon Williams, migrated in 2013.

Burke was among 15 coaches who received their respective certificates after passing the International Coaches Course Level II, held at the FIVB/NORCECA Regional Development Center in Santo Domingo recently.

The course was led by FIVB instructors Argelio Hernandez of Cuba and Juan Cartagena of Puerto Rico and it marked the conclusion of the activities of the Regional Development Center in Dominican Republic for 2013.

The other participating countries were Argentina, Bonaire, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru and Saint Lucia.

The participants with the three highest grades during the final exams: Samantha Mann of St Lucia, Carlos Humberto Lopez of Guatemala and Marcos Macedo of Brazil, all received a magnetic coaching board donated by NORCECA Confederation.(RT)
