And, it is the third successive year that two brothers have been selected to represent SVG.

In previous competitions, 2011 in Dominica, brothers — Salvan and Shem Browne made the team, while last year, the combination of Salvan Browne and Dean Browne made the trip to St Lucia.

The current pair of Ambris, 20, and Currency 31, both have represented local club Saints in the domestic competitions for many years; however, they have never been on the St Vincent and the Grenadines team together.

Ambris, a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper, made his St Vincent and the Grenadines senior team debut in 2010 in the Windward Islands two-day tournament in Grenada, but has not played for his country at the twenty/20 level.

He has, however, represented the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in the Caribbean T-20 competition earlier this year.

Apart from the CCC, Ambris has played for the Windwards and West Indies Under-15 teams, the Windwards and West Indies Under-19 outfits and the University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI.

Currency, who began representing St Vincent and the Grenadines’ senior team in 1999 as an opener, has since shifted to the middle order. It is a return to the national outfit after a five-year break, as he was attending the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus.

But it was not a break from cricket, as Currency represented the CCC during that period, and was once the team’s captain.

Like his younger brother, Currency has played for the Windwards Under-15 and Under-19 teams and the University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI.

He has also represented the senior Windwards team and the once configured Southern Windwards, made up St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada players.

Currency, in this year’s Windwards tournament, will be the understudy to standing captain Lindon James.

But new to the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior set up are right-handed batsman Rodney Lawrence and left arm spinner Asif Hooper, both former national under-19 players, while Dawney Grant gets his first taste of the T-20 format for St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ambris, Currency, Lawrence, Hooper and Grant, replace Atticus Browne, Salvan Browne, Dean Browne, Rolando Wright and Keron Cottoy who were part of the 2012 triumphant team.

The rest of the St Vincent and the Grenadines T-20 team are Miles Bascombe, Delorn Johnson, Kenroy Peters, Casmond Walters, Desron Maloney, Donwell Hector and Alston Bobb.

Salvan Browne, Wright, Shaquille Browne and Mc Leon Williams have been named on the reserve list.

Meanwhile in the two-day format which follows the T-20 competition, Atticus Browne, Cottoy and Kenneth Dembar will join the team, which will be exited by Walters, Maloney and Hooper.

St Lucia hold the reins on the two-day competition.(RT)
