This was just part of the good news that president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Volleyball Association Eardley Martin brought back from the NORCECA Congress, held in Mexico, from November 1 to 3.

Martin told SEARCHLIGHT that while at the Congress, he submitted a proposal for such a facility and it was approved.

“It will be funded by NORCECA… All we have to do is get a written letter from the Government here, stating it has granted permission to the association to erect the facility,” Martin disclosed.

“The court will be fenced and lit, so we would be in a position to host competitions and be in a better financial status in terms of charging for these facilities”, the SVGVA head said.

Martin noted that the fact that St Vincent and the Grenadines’ representatives at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Junior Beach Volleyball Tournament, Rodell Fraser and Delshun Welcome, earned a place at the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China, from August 16-28, helped in building a case.

Martin said that the success of the duo brought St Vincent and the Grenadines into focus, as a potential beach volleyball nation.

More glad tidings and good cheer are in store for the local sport, according to Martin.

“While in Mexico I got word that the sports floor has arrived, which is a $40,000 US gift to the association from NORCECA…It’s an outdoor facility, but it would assist the young people with their ankles and their knees, particularly for the aggressive ones and so the senior players as well”, Martin stated with a broad grin.

He concluded that as with the beach volleyball court, the sport court also has to be approved by the Government and its agencies, as to the best site for their erection.(RT)
