Gomea Bombers staying in hunt in TBPO softball competition

Losing finalist in the 2012 edition of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation Twenty/20 Softball Cricket Competition – Gomea Bombers, are staying in the hunt for another title shot.{{more}}

Last Sunday at the Dauphine Playing Field, Bombers blunted Shot Callers by 102 runs. Batting first, Gomea Bombers posted 173 for 7 from their 20 overs, led by Kendall Payne, who struck 52; Barry Cunningham hit 29 and Carlos Williams – 25.

Danny Daniel got 2 for 40 and Jayvon Jack, 2 for 42, bowling for Shot Callers, whose response was limited to 73 all out, in 16.5 overs. Shot Callers were not answerable to the bowling of Steve Woods – 2 for 2, Edwin Joe – 2 for 12 and Julian Toby – 2 for 14.

Also chalking up victories were Out ah Trouble, Glen United and Older Boys. Out Ah Trouble eased past E Z Woods Toppers by eight wickets on Saturday. Miles Bascombe top scored with 25, as Toppers scored 116 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Starkey Peters – 3 for 23; Lee Bacchus – 3 for 30 and Asbain Dasent – 2 for 19, shared the bowling spoils for Out Ah Trouble. Sunil Ambris then struck 64 and Mikel Mapp – 21, to pilot Out Ah Trouble to 121 for 2.

Meanwhile, Glen United cured Dr Thomas Injectors by three wickets. Damien Allen was the lead batsman in Dr Thomas Injectors’ total of 120 for 7 from their 20 overs. Kenneth Lewis was the pick of Glen United’s bowling, as he snapped up 4 for 20. In reply, Glen United got to 121 for 7; Ronaldo Coombs made 38 and Cornelius Emmons – 20. Wendell Corridon took 2 for 15 and Emil Small – 2 for 29 in a losing cause for Dr Thomas Injectors.

And, Older Boys beat Bank of SVG All Stars on a faster scoring rate after rain intervened on Sunday afternoon. Older Boys scored 99 all out in 19.2 overs; Rajiv Roberts hit 30. Bowling for All Stars, Glenroy Dasent took 2 for 5. All Stars were 37 for 2 from 6.4 overs when rain ended the match. (RT)
