Volleyball coach points back to drawing board
Interim coach of the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior menâs volleyball team, Dominic White, would like to see more focus placed on the sportâs youth programme.{{more}}
White, who oversaw the national senior menâs volleyball teamâs preparations for Group K of the FIV B NORCECA second round qualifiers for the 2014 FIVB World Championships in Tortola late last month, shared this with SEARCHLIGHT.
â ⦠We need to get back to the drawing board, because we are not to that level where we can compete with the larger countries in NORCECA ⦠We have to go back to the basics; we have to back to the grassroots,â White said.
âWe have to incorporate the youth programme, so we can have an influx of players who can compete at a higher level,â he advised.
White noted that St Vincent and the Grenadines were defeated in the menâs Group K qualifiers by both Panama and the Dominican Republic, but won the British Virgin Islands twice.
He stated that the local team was competitive with the team in the region, but always met the going tough with those from Latin America.
White also acknowledged that for St Vincent and the Grenadines to be a force to reckoned with in the future, other infrastructural additions must be made.
St Vincent and the Grenadines finished third in both the menâs and womenâs second round outings and advanced no further.
This was the first time that this country had reached beyond the first round.(RT)
