SVG pouches five awards at NORCECA men’s volleyball qualifiers

Despite placing third and failing to advance to the third round of the 2014 FIVB World Championships, St Vincent and the Grenadines collected five individual awards in Pool K of the NORCECA {{more}} men’s qualifiers which ended last Sunday at the Multi- Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola.

Topping the list for the Vincentians was team captain Cassius Franklyn who won the Best Scorer and Best Server accolades.

The other awards to go the Vincentians’ way were Best Blocker – Cluevvan Cumberbatch; Best Setter – Jahmal Small and Best Receiver – Akins Questelles.

The Most Valuable Player award was secured by Dominican Republic’s Miguel Caceres, who also took away the Best Spiker award.

Max Valenzuela of runner-up Panama, secured the awards of Best Digger and Best Libero.

St Vincent and the Grenadines ended the tournament with two wins and two losses.

The Vincentians trumped over the British Virgin Islands twice, but were beaten by the Dominican Republic and Panama.

Against the British Virgin Islands, it was a 3-1 margin on both occasions.

In the preliminary round, St Vincent and the Grenadines won 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22, and in the third place play-off, it was 17-25, 25-23, 25-29, 25-18.

The Dominican Republic scorched the Vincentians 3-0 (25- 13, 25-9, 25-14), while Panama stopped them also 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-12).

The dominant Dominican Republic won all their four matches by 3-0 margins, while Panama had two wins and two losses.

The British Virgin Islands was winless, losing all four matches. (RT)
