John turns back hands of time… Hector continues to rain runs

Former St Vincent and the Grenadines opening batsman Lance John missed out on a century, when he lashed 98 last weekend, in the National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the national cricket competition at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.{{more}}

John, who also played for the Windwards and Combined Islands and is a current Windwards senior selector, made his runs for LIME Radcliffe against Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO.

John, the current facility manager at the National Sports Council, was at home, and must have thought it was a belated birthday present, as he turned 56 earlier this month.

Now past his cricketing sunset, John would never have dreamt of making such runs at the highest level of local cricket.

His score, along with Drumo Toney’s 38 and Lindon James’ 37 not out, pushed Radcliffe to 195 for 3, in response to ASCO’s 136 all out. Jenry Ollivierre took 2 for 33, bowling for ASCO.

When ASCO batted first, Amreal Bobb top scored with 27. Andy Harper, 5 for 41 and Dyke Cato, 3 for 65, led Radcliffe’s bowling.

In ASCO’s second innings of 86 for 1, Darren Greaves struck 47 not out.

But at Arnos Vale Two, Donwell Hector, who was axed from the Windwards team earlier this year, for a run of low scores, crafted his second century for the domestic season, when he lashed 135 not out to lead Victors One to 251 for 7 against Police Two.

Also contributing to Victors One’s total, Seon Sween made 38 not out.

Police Two’s bowling saw Mohammed Lavia taking 2 for 31 and Elmore Alexander, 2 for 55.

When the lawmen batted, they closed at 203 for 9, as the match ended in a decision.

Mc Leon Williams stroked 93, and Salvan Browne 35.

Kenneth Dember picked up 4 for 49 and Keron Cottoy 3 for 70.

And, at the Sion Hill Playing Field, defending champion Team Rivals won on first innings from Guardian General Saints.

Deighton Butler grabbed 3 for 3, Casmond Walter, 2 for 2 and Ronniel Jefffrey, 2 for 14, as Saints were blown away for 30, batting first.

Rivals, in reply, knocked up 159 for 6 declared. Marvin Small, 50 and Recarvo Williams, 29 not out, led their batting.

Timothy Warner with 3 for 33 and Romario Bibby, 2 for 27, were Saints’ most successful bowlers.

Saints, in their second innings, were 106 for 6. Rickford Walker made 37 and Omarl Lorriane, 28 not out.

Orlanzo Jackson took 2 for 21, as Rivals joined Radcliffe in gaining first innings points in another drawn match, as rain, especially on Saturday, affected all three matches. (RT)
