Emmanuel Stewart sparking in Windwards U-15 cricket tourney

Begin to write the name Emmanuel Stewart down for future reference in Windward Islands cricket. The 13-year-old from Carriacou became the first sportsman from Grenada’s sister isle to captain a national team at any level.{{more}} He was appointed to lead his island in the National Lotteries Authority Windwards Under-15 tournament, currently taking place here.

Stewart is making his mark on the tournament and celebrating his achievement, as after four rounds of matches, the Hillsboro Secondary School student is the leading run scorer.

A diminutive right-handed batman and wicketkeeper, Stewart has so far compiled 229 runs. He had knocks of 81 versus St Lucia, 23 and 38 against Dominica and 87 against St Vincent and the Grenadines, at an average of 57.25.

So far, his 87 is the highest individual score in the 2013 edition.

Stewart’s two half centuries have been pivotal in his team’s defeats over St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

His 81, made up of 11 fours against the St Lucians, pushed Grenada to 191 all out in 43.5 overs, at Arnos Vale Two.

Johnell Eugene grabbed 4 for 25, bowling for St Lucia.

In reply, St Lucia was dismissed for 132 in 36. 4 overs; Nick Elibox scored 64. Narum Sighn — 3 for 20 and Calvin Blache — 2 for 33, were the main wicket takers for the Grenadians.

Stewart’s innings against St Vincent and the Grenadines saw his team to 247 for 8 from 50 overs.

To show his worth, the losses by Grenada came when he did not score over 50.

Stewart’s 23 was second to Donald McDonald who hit the top score of 32, as Grenada scored 103.

Terrel Toussaint picked up 3 for 14 and Kerwin Dupigny took 2 for 7, bowling for the Dominicans, who were shepherded by Leic Charles, who hit 38 not out.

Calvin Blache took 2 for 29 for Grenada.

And, in his second innings of 38 against Dominica, Stewart was the top scorer in his team’s total of 142 all out. Darron Nedd scored 28.

Bowling for Dominica, Daniel Dupigny had 4 for 31 and Terrell Toussaint — 2 for 38.

Dominica, in reply, reached 143 for 3 in 40.4 overs. Leic Charles 49 not out and Gamaliel Ophar — 22. (RT)
