Twins repeat in 100 m at inter-schools track meet

It seems that nothing can separate twin brothers – Roberto and Reuberth Boyde, not even the 100 m sprint at the inter secondary schools track and field meet.{{more}}

Students of the Bishop’s College Kingstown, the pair was again first and second at this year’s fast paced event, held last Thursday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Competing in the Under-21 age category, it was again Roberto who outdid his brother.

Roberto stopped the clock at 11.28 seconds, while Reuberth clocked 11.31 seconds, to place second and get the silver.

During the heats though, it was Reuberth who had clocked the faster time – 10.95 seconds, which was a new meet record over the distance.

At last year’s championships, when both competed in the Under-17, Roberto was first in 11.55 seconds and Reuberth second in 11.59 seconds.

However, while Roberto creamed the field in the 200 m in 22. 22 seconds, his identical half had to sit out the event, because of an injury.

The two were first and second in the 200 m in 2012. Then, in the Under-17 age grouping, Roberto’s time was 22.93 seconds, while Reuberth clocked 22.98 seconds.

Earlier at last Thursday’s championships, Reuberth timed 50.97 seconds in the 400 m, to finish second, behind the St Vincent Grammar School’s Kellornie Howe, whose winning time was 50.27 seconds.

Both times were faster than the previous top mark for the meet, which was 51.39 seconds, established in 2011 by Brandon Parris of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.

It is highly unlikely that the two can repeat their inseparable placing at the 2014 edition, as both are fifth formers, and are expected to move on. (RT)
