Donwell Hector takes advantage on local stage
Donwell Hector, who was dropped as a middle order batsman in the senior Windward Islands team, last weekend showed his talent on the local scene.{{more}}
He helped Victors One trample Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO by an innings and 8 runs, in the National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the national cricket championships.
In this year’s West Indies Cricket Board regional 4-day competition, Hector, who had scores of 6 and 9 not out against the Combined Colleges and Colleges, failed to score against Trinidad and Tobago and made 5 and 3 versus Jamaica. He lost his place to St Lucian Sergio Fedee.
In last weekend’s match, Hector topscored for Victors One with 77, in his team’s lone innings of 287 for 6 declared. Playing at the Arnos Vale, he got support from Seon Sween – 54 not out and Chrisroy John- 41. ASCO in response was dismissed for 155. Desron Maloney hit 38.
Victors One’s bowling hero was St Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards Under-19 off spinner Kenneth Dember, who snared 4 for 19.
Trailing by 132 runs, ASCO fared worse as they made 124 all out. Elric Morris made 35. Ray Jordan bagged 5 for 24, as ASCO was condemned to their second successive defeat.
However another team in the Victors clan, Victors Two, had to play second fiddle to Police Two at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field, losing on first innings.
The lawmen batted first and posted 183 all out, led by 55 from Rolando Wright.
Denis Byam took 3 for 39; Roland Wilkinson – 3 for 58 and Kennard Adams- 2 for 22, bowling for Victors Two.
In reply, Victors Two fell short by 61 runs, dismissed for 122. Roland Wilkinson compiled 33.
Elmore Alexander, with 4 for 13, was the pick of Police Two’s bowling success.
Batting a second time, Police Two declared at 128 for 4, to set Victors Two 190 to win. Mc Leon Williams struck 68.
At the close, Victor Two was 6 for 2, with Denson Hoyte- 40 not out.
First Division
In the lone first division match played at the Sion Hill Playing Field, Police One took first innings honours from Ruddy’s Electrical Unique Warriors.
Police One’s first innings came to a halt at 173. The evergreen Gospel Cupid struck 77.
Calvert Williams grabbed 6 for 24, bowling for Unique Warriors, who at their turn, fell 10 runs short at 163. Police One’s second innings saw them declaring at 168 for 8.
Calvert Williams was once more the star with the ball, as he picked up 3 for 36.
In pursuit of 178 to win, Unique Warriors reached 158 for 5. Calvert Williams crowned off a good all round effort, scoring 49 not out. Courtney Mc Dowald contributed 42. (RT)
