United Survivors begin defence of softball cricket title
Perennial winner of the female division of the Ashburton Sports and Cultural Organisation T-20 softball cricket competition, United Survivors began their 2013 defence of the title with a 23-run win over newcomers Rising Stars, on Sunday at the Dauphine Playing Field.{{more}}
Batting first, United Survivors scored 122 for 7 off 15 overs. Samantha Lynch was 51 not out and her sister Maria Abbott hit 20.
Phyllis Williams â 2 for 19, Sue Ann Martin â 2 for 18 and Stacy Adams 2 for 22, were the main wicket takers for Rising Stars.
Rising Stars managed 99 for 6 from their 15 overs. Edlyn Turtin hit a top score of 28. Cordel Jack â 2 for 7.
In menâs play, also on Sunday, Georgie Valley Saints got the upper hand of Gomea Bombers by six wickets.
Gomea Bombers meandered to 84 for 7 off 15 overs. Orlando OâBrien contributed 21.
Bowling for Georgie Valley Saints, Zane Greaves took 2 for 13 and Kishurn Williams 2 for 11. Georgie Valley Saints responded with 87 for 4 in 11.1 overs. Xavier Alexander stroked 57 not out. Ricky King captured 2 for 16.
On Saturday, Glen United defeated Bangers by four wickets and the male division dominated the weekend.
Bangers were dismissed for 88 in 14.2 overs. Calvin Enville top scored with 19.
Troy Harry snapped up 3 for 10 and Casmond Walters 2 for 16.
Glen United responded with 89 for 6 in 14.1 overs. Maxi Hackshaw led the way for Glen with 23. Raymond Sayers captured 2 for 15, bowling for Bangers.
Also on Saturday, Shot Callers chalked up a four-run win over Richmond Hill United.
Shot Callers posted 116 for 5 off 15 overs. Darron Henry hit 20.
Richmond Hill United replied with 112 all out in 14.2 overs. Isaac Trimmingham scored 27.
Adonis Nanton ended with 3 for 21, Carlton Baptiste 2 for no run and Kemuel King 2 for 13. (RT)
