Cyclists circle town

Local cyclists put their training regimen to the test last Sunday afternoon, when they contested the Dasco Pharmacy Round D Town event, put on by the SVG Cycling Union in the capital, Kingstown.{{more}}

Taking the mountain bike category, which spanned nine miles — with cyclists covering 15 laps — was Shawn Chandler, who clocked 30 minutes 33.78 seconds. Jeff Lewis was second in 31 minutes 01.78 seconds.

In the female road bike category of 6 miles, which involved 10 laps, first was Niesha Alexander in a time of 22 minutes 26.52 seconds and second was Crystal Durrant in 23 minutes 43.14 seconds.

And, in the road bike category of 25 laps, a distance of 15 miles, first to cross the line was Cammie Adams, in 41 minutes 12.27 seconds. Second was Oniel George in 41 minutes 12. 35 seconds and third was Zefal Bailey, who clocked 41 minutes 12. 46 seconds.

The cyclists will be at it again from 2 p.m. this Sunday, starting outside Howard’s Marine at Villa Flat, then to Ratho Mill and to the Roundabout in Arnos Vale and back to Howard’s Marine seven times, covering a total of 28 miles. This is for the males in the road bike category.

The mountain bikers will do three laps, a distance of 12 miles, with the road bike category for females also doing three laps. (RT)
