Young athletes with common factors
Two budding athletes who are showing up regularly at the mini meets staged by Team Athletics have several things in common.{{more}}
Six-year-old Jodeisha Samuel is a grade one pupil of the Layou Government School, while Rasheed Wallace is an eight-year-old grade three pupil of the same school.
One is the offspring of a former national footballer and the other, the child of a current national player.
Samuel, who showed her mark at last Saturdayâs meet at the Victoria Park, defeating others older than her, is daughter of former St Vincent and the Grenadines defender Percival Samuel, while Wallace, who did likewise, is the son of national striker Shandell Samuel.
And, like their fathers, who are known for their pace on the football field, they have that talent on the track.
The duo of Samuel and Wallace recently left an impression on their schoolâs track meet.
Already showing an aptitude for the sprints, Samuel won both of her individual races, while Wallace trumped his three. He was named his age groupâs divisional champion.
Both are looking forward to the inter primary schools athletics meet next month, when they are expected to show their wares among their peers on the national scale.
Wallace, however, said he is torn between athletics and football, as closely in the path of his father, he is an upcoming striker. (RT)
