DJPEMS gets on board with table tennis

The Dr J P Eustace Memorial Secondary School (DJPEMS) has joined the crusade to include table tennis as part of their secondary schools’ sports programme.They are also hoping for a revival of the sport nationally, especially at the junior level.{{more}}

The table tennis board was purchased with funds raised through the collaborative efforts of Jonathan Pitt, a former student of that institution (formerly called the Emmanuel High School Kingstown), and funds from the school.

They are now seeking to serve off a renewed energy among the youths.

At a small presentation held last Friday at the school, the principal of the DJPEMS Alwyn Joseph expressed his desire to add another element of sport to the school’s agenda.

Meanwhile, Pitt, a former national doubles champion, noted that the school has a rich history of producing good table tennis players, and he hoped that the students will endeavour to rekindle that passion in the sport.

Pitt is leading the charge to have another table tennis board placed in the school and is wooing other past students to make this a reality.

Also partnering with the school is the department of physical education and sports, which will provide its expertise every Tuesday, to ensure the rudiments of table tennis are taught in a wholesome manner. (RT)
