TASVG toasts its 2012 top performers
Team Athletics SVG last weekend, toasted those athletes and individuals who, in 2012, had performances and inputs which were deserving of recognition.{{more}}
The Annual Presentation and Awards Ceremony, which was held on Saturday afternoon at Frenches House, saw Brandon Valentine-Parris, not only securing the Junior Male Athlete of the Year award, but also the Athlete of Year title â the overall top accolade.
Nicky Ann Stephens was again named Junior Female Athlete of the Year.
Courtney Williams won the Senior Male Athlete of the Year title and Kineke Alexander â Senior Female Athlete of the Year category.
Genita Lewis was adjudged the Volunteer of the Year and Kelvin Yorke â the Technical Official of the Year.
The X- Cel Sports Club secured the Club of the Year accolade.
Shaffiqua Maloney tipped ahead and was named the Most Promising Young Athlete.
The award for the top athlete from the Talent Identification Programme was taken by Kerina Hooper of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.
An emerging distance athlete, Hooper was the intermediate champion at the 2012 inter-secondary schoolsâ track and field championships and won the Under-15 category of the three LOG Enterprises road races late last year.
Michael Ollivierre, for the second consecutive year, got the controversial Coach of the Year award.
Saturdayâs ceremony also saw the presentation of awards for the major track and field events put on by Team Athletics SVG.
X- Ceed Sports Club made it five consecutive years of snapping up the Mustique Company National Club Championships.
Among the other individual titles secured in the National Championships, Mc Kish Compton of X-Cel won the Male Under-16 and X-Ceedâs Kerina Hooper retained the Female title.
The Male Under-18 Champion and Victor Ludorum was X- Ceedâs Najee Israel and Nicky Ann Stephens, also of X- Ceed, was the female title holder.
In the Under-20 Male, the champion was Keron Arthur of X-Cel and the female winner was Alicia Cox also of X-Ceed.
Yurnic Nanton of X-Cel snatched the Male Over-20 champion and Sheva Butcher of X-Ceed was the Female Over-20 winner.
The Veterans Male title was won by Garth deShong of X-Ceed sports club, with Andrea David also of X-Ceed taking the Female Veterans award and Victrix Ludorum.
The Girlsâ High School pouched the National Relay Classics title for females and X-Cel, the male title.
The Du Bois Government School took the National Kids In Athletics team championships, with the St Vincent Grammar School once again stashing away the Male championships of the National Team Competitions, likewise Great Head, the Female championships.(RT)
