Super Heavyweight Kemron Beache was the only Vincentian boxer to successfully compete in the Trinidad and Tobago National Championships last weekend.{{more}}
Beache defeated Trinidadian Jemeil Guevera on points, in the duel of the big men, weighing 91 kilos and more.
For Beache, who is attached to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Coastguard, his win comes as a result of following the coachâs instruction, this time around.
On his first outing in Barbados, Beache attributed his defeat to not obeying his corner.
In making amends last weekend, Beache said: âI used more jabs, put up more defence and controlled the fightâ.
He referred to his success as a step up, but on an undetermined path in the sport, as plans of reading for a masterâs degree in maritime studies may hinder his further advancement.
His entry to the sport came about while he was pursuing his undergraduate studies in the USA.
Beache admitted that it was out of boredom that he was encouraged by Wayne Williams of basketball fame to link up with the members of the local boxing fraternity to continue in the sport.
Beache holds the view that there are many boxers here who want to go far in the sport, but who are put off by the lack of facilities.
St Vincent and the Grenadines was also represented at the championships by two other boxers, but they both lost their fights.
Lightweight Conrick Richardson lost on the judgesâ decision to Kevin Coker of Trinidad and Tobago.
Junior Featherweight boxer, Emron Tittle â a novice, lost to Malcolm Benjamin, also of Trinidad and Tobago, on a split decision.
The Vincentian team was coached by Cavanaugh Gumbs. (RT)
