The competition, which opened Sunday at the Stubbs Primary School hard court, will involve seven teams.

Giant Malt Clinchers from the Marriaqua Valley, Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem of Greiggs, New Era Pepper Stars of Calliaqua, and Owia Trail Blazers of Owia join home-based teams Brighton Combined of Brighton, Desperadoes of Carapan and Enhams Playin It Safe of Enhams.

In the revived competition held in 2011, only teams from the south-east belt participated.

Sunday’s opening heard brief remarks from president of SEDI Inc Rosita Snagg, first vice president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Natasha Stapleton, and SEDI Inc games secretary Kent Caine.

All speakers encouraged the players to play to the best of their abilities so that they can assist in the overall development of netball in SVG.

Stapleton gave a special commendation to Trail Blazers for their interest in netball, as they have travel several miles to participate in the competition.

Trail Blazers also participated in the 2012 Karibbean Tires ASCO competition, which concluded two weeks ago, and was adjudged the most disciplined team.

The opening saw six of the registered teams participating in the march past.

New Era Pepper Stars were adjudged the best-dressed team.

In the net-o-rama that followed, Desperadoes defeated Owia Trail Blazers 26-23.

Next on SEDI’s sporting calendar is the restart of a cricket competition at the Stubbs Playing Field. (RT)
