Dr Sherian Slater will lead the association for another year.

However, once again she was left with no other choice, as others had indicated they did not want the top spot.

Deidre Myers is the new vice president, swapping places with Dr Simone France, who is the new secretary. Tessa Shallow-King retained her post as treasurer.

Sanjay Jiandani is the association’s new public relations officer, taking over from Anne Miller.

The committee members are Alison Sutherland and Janine Doyle.

Doyle was the assistant public relations officer in the out-going executive, but that post has been done away with.

Bradley Glasgow is now the association’s youth development officer — a change of name. On the previous executive, Glasgow was known as the junior representative.

Glasgow’s position is representative of the thinking of president Slater, who said her executive will focus in the upcoming months on the development of young squash players.

“We will be trying to get more youths involved in the squash programme and we would be thinking of the 8 to 10 year olds …” Slater told SEARCHLIGHT soon after Monday’s meeting.

“We need to see where the future of squash is … When we have our first meeting that will be the first thing on our agenda.”

Slater further said her executive will also be trying to get more female involved in the sport, but admitted it will be an uphill task, as “females always have a lot to do…”

In recounting last year’s tenure, Slater said: “Our teams did well in the regional tournaments … In the OECS junior tournament, we won all of the categories we entered and in the senior tournament, we also won all the categories we entered.”

Monday’s meeting also heard reports from the various components of the 2012 executive.

The new executive will serve for one year. (RT)
